Fundación La Libertad is a prominent public-private alliance in Costa Rica dedicated to cultural and economic development. Since 2022, Emberlight Global has served as their strategic digital partner, transforming a massive, unmanaged digital ecosystem into a high-performance asset that drives social impact.

The Challenge

When the engagement began, the Foundation’s website faced several structural and strategic limitations:

Overly Complex Navigation
The site had grown organically over time, resulting in excessive information architecture complexity, fragmented user journeys, and difficulty for visitors to locate relevant content.

Lack of Success Metrics
There was no analytics framework or clear definition of what success looked like for the website, making performance measurement and optimization impossible.

Decentralized Content Governance
Multiple departments independently updated content without unified standards, introducing inconsistencies, formatting issues, and technical instability.

Brand Evolution Requirements
Following a full organizational rebrand, Fundación La Libertad needed its digital presence to reflect its new identity while modernizing the overall user experience.

Our team conducted a comprehensive audit of the existing site to evaluate:

Rather than treating the engagement as a simple redesign, Emberlight approached the project as a strategic digital transformation initiative.

Phase 1: MVP Launch

To align with Fundación La Libertad’s organizational rebrand and launch timeline, Emberlight designed and developed a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) version of the new website, delivering a significantly improved digital experience within an accelerated timeframe while establishing the strategic foundation for future growth.

Outcome
The MVP launched successfully in August 2023 in tandem with Fundación La Libertad’s new brand rollout, delivering a modernized platform that dramatically improved the organization’s digital presence and established the technical and strategic groundwork for long-term growth.

The Governance
Challenge

As is common in large organizations, maintaining consistency post-launch proved difficult without formal governance processes.

Over time:

  • Independent content additions introduced visual inconsistencies
  • Custom code modifications created technical issues
  • Formatting and structural standards drifted
  • UX quality and site stability began degrading

This revealed a critical truth:
A successful digital platform requires not only strong initial execution, but also sustained governance, maintenance, and strategic ownership.

Phase 2: Stabilization & “Back to Basics”

In 2025, Fundación La Libertad re-engaged Emberlight to restore site stability and resume progress toward the long-term vision.

Our Work Included

  • Full QA and technical audit of the live implementation
  • Removal/refactoring of problematic external/custom code
  • Restoration of original component architecture
  • CSS and spacing/alignment cleanup across the platform
  • Re-implementation of original design system standards
  • Development of three major new strategic content sections

Result
A stable, performant, and scalable “Back to Basics” platform was launched in January 2026, re-establishing the website as a reliable digital foundation.

What began as a redesign project evolved into a long-term strategic partnership.
